A Different Kind of Litmag
Hotch Potch Meets Becky Tuch!
If you write short stories and would like to collaborate with a literary magazine with a community focus, more involved editing, and artwork as a prompt, check out this conversation with my colleagues from Hotch Potch Literature and Art. You’ll hear how our magazine was founded, the values we hold dear, the kinds of work we’re drawn to, and what we offer writers that’s different.
But first, a story!
Many years ago, I was working as Fiction Editor for the Cobalt Review, and I fell in love with a story called “Reconciliation.” The piece, crafted as emails between an artist and a museum professional in conflict over alleged racism, was a brilliant exploration of so much that felt culturally alive and fraught in that historical moment. I found the writing insightful, funny, nuanced, and brave. I accepted the piece with minimal edits and had a smooth and lovely experience with the writer, whose name was Becky Tuch.
At the time, I had no idea that Becky was the mover and shaker in the literary community that she is. After publication, I looked her up and began following her and her projects, one of which is LitMag News, an expansive and informative window into the world of literary magazines. Now, I was even more impressed!
Fast forward to summer of 2025. I reached out to Becky to see if she would be interested in interviewing editors from Hotch Potch Literature and Art, a magazine I co-founded with some writer and artist friends during COVID. She enthusiastically said yes. Yesterday Becky hosted us, and the conversation was a sheer delight.
Huge shout-out to Becky for being game and opening her community to ours.

It's good to have additional context around the interview which I thought was excellent. The type of writing and artistic community building that happens around Hotch Potch Literature and Art is unique. I am glad to be on its orbit at its time of high velocity expansion and literary excellence. It's a school for writers like no others and more results, I am sure, are likely to come to the forefront.
