Not sure about you, but if someone so much as mentions a social event, my first response is typically, “Sorry, my cat and I have plans.” Although I’m technically an extrovert, I’m easily overstimulated, inept at chit chat, and intolerant of compulsive talkers (if this is you, please know I don’t judge you, even if I run away screaming).
So, knowing that most writers are introverts, I’m going to try to entice you to come to next Saturday’s Zoom launch for Volume 3, Issue 2 of the magazine I co-founded, Hotch Potch Literature and Art from 4:00-5:00 p.m. ET. I’d love to see some of you subscribers there, mainly because we’re looking for new talent and I believe that we as a community have a lot to offer our writers.
I’ve put together a list of reasons to come to Saturday’s launch because, well, lists are the best.
Connection
We’re always looking for writers to join forces with. If you’re interested in getting published and being part of a high-functioning fun-loving team, this is a terrific opportunity to find out more about us. On our end, we totally want to meet you, especially if you’ve got a flair for dialogue, character development, or bad puns.
Books
Several of our contributing editors are offering books which we’ll be raffling off. Yes, that means FREE BOOKS, and they are all terrific. The likelihood of winning is fairly high since we have six books and our events typically are small (our largest was around 20 people). I’m including cover images of the titles.
Structure
This is our sixth launch, and we’ve got it down to a science. This is what you’ll experience in that hour: three-minute readings, interactive quizzes, a guitar performance, a gong, and yes, our claim to fame, virtual snacks. It’s really a low-stakes opportunity to get to know other writers and editors in an environment designed to help awkward folks shine.
Time
This event is guaranteed to stay within a strict 60-minute limit. We’ve all been to those launches that go on for days, and believe me, that will never (ever) be us.
Quality
The stories and artwork in this issue are amazing. The launch provides just a taste of what you’ll find online in the actual issue, but it’s a lot of fun to hear excerpts read by their creators.
Here is the link if you’d like to join us on Saturday. And here is the link to our Facebook event page.
Thanks everyone, and have a great rest of your week!
Gail
“Sorry, my cat and I have plans.” 😂😂😂😂 Omg I relate! I was just thinking the other day about FOMO and how I canNOT relate. I think I instead have FOBI. (Fear of being invited.)
This sounds like a great gathering Gail. I’ll see if I can break my plans with Otis.
This looks amazing! I will plan to be there. Any chance there's a Zoom link my email can be added to so I might receive a reminder? (a very specific ask, I know...)
