Great question! For me, I have a gratitudes practice with my partner and every night we talk about things that made our hearts sing. I bring focus to the ways my readers showed up for me so that information simply takes up more space in my head. Focusing on, noticing that makes it more important than whatever isn’t happening in my career traditionally (ie, didn’t win that contest, got rejected from magazines, etc). It helps a lot that I earn money another way, but it still isn’t always easy or self-evident, especially when I see writer friends getting the traditional rewards that are easier to feel good about.
Love this perspective; how do you maintain that intrinsic focus when external pressures feel stong, your insights are truly invaluable.
