There are few people I interview whom I’ve known for more than 50 years; in fact, Marc Raco may be the only one. We went to grade school together, did theater together in high school, and in the last few years reconnected via social media. I was delighted to find out that Marc submitted a story to Hotch Potch Literature and Art, where I’m an editor. Marc’s story, “The Beast,” appears in issue 4.1.
As a writer, Marc’s experience is vast, and along with short stories includes TV pilots, articles, screenplays, introductions for podcasts, and a novel. His career has also been varied; he’s worked as an actor in New York City, an award-winning multimedia producer, and an insurance salesman. But the thread that ties all of Marc’s endeavors together is storytelling.
Highlights from our conversation include his theater adventures in Rochester and Manhattan, the podcast he hosted called Funny People Talking, the Hope Is project with Sarah Takako Skinner, the process involved in writing The Beast for issue 4.1 of Hotch Potch Literature and Art, and the wonderful story of adopting Chester the miracle cat, who has her own Instagram.
Enjoy!
