I met comedian and academic Lalita Dee through collaborating on Boyhood Reimagined: Stories of Queer Moms Raising Sons, which launches on Tuesday June 3rd, and she's totally my new performer crush. Her essay in the book, "Time to Change the Channel," had me in stitches before we even met (especially the part about the pink razor). Brilliant, hilarious, honest, warm, and engaged, Lalita lights up the Zoom room with her phenomenal and generous presence, and I know you'll find her as amazing as I do.
In this conversation, she talks about immigrating from the Netherlands, studying comedy with Dina Nina Martinez, managing great ideas that come at terrible moments (the shower or the car), her new project about her mother's suicide for the Mental Health Comedy Hour, and the one relationship that's essential for her to get right in order to write successfully.
Treat yourself to a laugh and check out her Instagram!
